Vegan Meatballs (Isolated Soy Free)

These vegan meatballs are isolated soy free. They make a great companion to your favorite spaghetti dish or try them in a meatball sub.
Three large meatballs only have 8 grams of fat, not bad when you consider they can be eaten with a fat free pasta and tomato sauce. GO TO RECIPE >

These look awesome! I’ve been trying to find vegan meatballs at supermarkets with no luck.
I wonder if the recipe would be a bit better if the lentils and the rice were blended together first before incorporating the rest. I’m not a lentil fan so perhaps for me it would be best to have those blended but then it may ruin the consistency.

I can’t tell they even have lentils in them after it’s all mashed together and cooked. I’d try them without blending first. : ) But the rice grains mimic ground beef so those especially should not be blended.

I’m cooking this tonight. This is the recipe I was looking for that caused me to discover your site. My son and I are new vegans (just about 2 weeks now) and we’re looking for a good recipe to make meatball subs. I made a nice spaghetti sauce last night and got some great whole wheat rolls. I’m preparing the brown rice now. Will assemble and prepare the rest tonight. Can’t wait!

Hey - can these be frozen?
My Vegan Cookbook said,

Ev, I hope you like them as a sub sandwich. I tried them on a sub and I’m not sure if I just wasn’t hungry enough or what but they were just ok on the sub. But my twin brother thought they were great on a sub.I do however LOVE them in spaghetti. I’m praying your sub is delicious cause I don’t want you to be disappointed. ah!
And yes they can be frozen, I got some in the freezer as we speak.

Josh - yeah - we LOVED them on the sub. My son is just 14. He decided to become a vegan just shortly after discovering that he really loves subway’s meatball sandwich. So we were pretty eager to make sure we found a good vegan meatball so he wouldn’t have to miss that too much. He said the meatballs from your recipe were better tasting than meat meatballs! I really liked them, too.
I ended up making mine a little smaller. Got 15 out of them. The texture was perfect.
Next I’m going to try the spicy wings.
Thanks for this site…

You should try it as a loaf and let us know how it goes. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. : )

You could try just leaving the molasses out, not sure how much that would change the flavor.

Hi! just found your site! I am stoked to try this recipe. Never tried lentils before. What color lentils are the good ones? Also, would this recipe be good with BBQ sauce? Thank you so much!
My Vegan Cookbook said,

I use brown lentils. I guess ’cause it’s all I ever find in the grocery store. Hmm, I haven’t ever tried it with bbq sauce, it might be good. : )

I may try this with black beans instead of lentils, since my husband is not supposed to eat lentils –he has only one kidney and was advised by doctor to avoid lentils and some other foods after he got kidney stones.

Yes, they freeze great and it’s so convenient to make a double batch and have them ready when you need them.

I just found your site looking for something to do with leftover lentils. I doubled this recipe (family of 6) and made patties for ‘burgers’. I think I found one of my new favorites. Thank you! I’m looking forward to making them again in an even larger quantity so I can freeze them for quick lunches.

I’m gluten and lactose intolerant, and I also have general chemical sensitivity (so usually all processed foods are a no-no). What would you recommend to replace the oats, wheat germ, and wheat flour in this recipe? Would extra-firm tofu work, for example? How about cooked quinoa or millet?
Thank you.

It would probably work ok. These are easy to experiment with and you probably can’t mess them up too bad.

This was the best vegan recipes I’ve ever tried. I became a lacto-ovo a couple of months ago and one of the reasons I didn’t even consider becoming a vegan is because any recipe I find falls apart when I’m making it or just tastes awful. This is the greatest website ever!
I have a request though. I have a soft spot for Quorn chik’n patties. Do you think you could try to make a recipe that’s like that? It’s the only cafeteria food that I’ve liked.

Are these a good source of protein? I’m a new vegan and I’m looking for some delicious and protein charged meat replacements!
My Vegan Cookbook said,

All plants are a good source of protein yes. Don’t worry so much about protein, you get plenty with a vegan diet. Read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, written by a cancer researcher, he talks about protein and how we get too much protein from animal based foods. He also says that there’s plenty protein in a vegan diet. Watch this video of Colin Campbell speaking, he pretty much sums up everything in his book, it’s very eye opening. You will not worry about protein after watching this.
